How To Safely Clean Your Scanner

By Michelle Pieters

As scrapbookers we all know how important it is to take care of our scanners. Have you ever carefully scanned in your beautiful new layout or photos, only to find that there are little dots all over your scan? Here are some simple instructions to keep your scanner in tip top condition.

Purchase a lint-free soft cloth, anti-static cloths are perfect for this. You will also need either eyeglass cleaner, a mild streak free glass cleaner or a special computer montitor cleaning solution. There are even specialised scanner wipes now available that remove finger oil and dust.

Never ever spray directly onto the glass. Always spray onto your cloth and then wipe the glass. This way the cleaner can't damage anything inside your scanner.

1. Unplug your scanner from power source.

2. Remove the lid.

3. Spray cleaner onto cloth.

4. Wipe scanner bed gently, making sure you don't scratch the glass.

5. Wipe directly afterwards with another dry soft lint-free cloth until glass is completely dry.

6. Attach lid and plug your scanner in.

7. Do a trial scan to check for streaks, marks or dust. If you find more then repeat the above process.

This way you should have streak free, dust free scans and you will be able to show of your fabulous layouts in all their glory.
