Memories Deserve More Than A Shoebox TM

Chalk It Up!

Chalk is a popular medium to use in scrapbooking. Wondering why it is becoming so popular? Well to begin with it is so easy to apply to your layouts and accents. Also if you do happen to change your mind about the colour or where you have applied it you can rub it out with a normal soft eraser.

To use chalks you just need an applicator—a cotton bud or foam eye make-up applicator will work—to rub onto the chalk and then apply to the area that needs shading. Chalking gives a pleasant soft look to wherever it is applied.

It can be used in so many areas of scrapbooking. Such as to colour titles or soften edges of title blocks. You can also use your chalk to give depth and highlights to your paper piecing. You may even like to try it as a soft wash look on a plain background.

Chalks are an easy way to blend colours. Begin with one colour and shade the area required. Change the colour and gently go over part of the previous colour to ‘mix’ the colours. This gives an even change of colour and blending with no harsh join lines.

To get a worn or aged look to the torn edge of paper, use either black or brown chalk.

For a frosted look to vellum apply some chalk to the back of the vellum.

Chalking is a lot of fun so give it a go and ‘Chalk It Up’.
