Memories Deserve More Than A Shoebox TM

10 Tips for Better Pictures

1. If subject is a person try to have them not face in the direction of the sun which would cause them to squint and create glare on their faces.

2. Scenic subjects photograph best in cloudy or not full sun which washes out the colours.

3. If you have a timer on your camera try to learn how to use it so when group shots are being taken the family chronicler isn't left out!

4. Take close ups of items and textures after you take a shot for use as a tag or layer....e.g. - soccer game...take close up of the ball, grass, number on jersey, etc.

5. Always take more than one shot of a group because until you see the print you don't know who "made a face" or had their eyes closed!

6. Take pictures at the beginning of the event so everyone's clothes are clean and hair is still tidy - applies to adults too.

7. Just before you click your picture, look at what else you see in the viewfinder.....is there a garbage can, open cupboard.....these things will take away from your final picture.

8. If subjects are sitting in front of a window during the daytime force a flash on your camera or adjust for backlight - option on some cameras is to focus on something else where the window isn't in the frame of the picture you want to take and push shutter button down half-way then re-framing your picture and complete the shot - this fools the internal light sensor.

9. Try to check your lens, even on a digital, every few months to make sure there are no fingerprints that will effect the quality of your print.

10. Take out a book from the library on photography - you'll be so glad you did!!
